This next story is just really fun. Not all evidence of flow has to come with deep spiritual insights or intense emotions.
The essence of flow includes play - dancing around in the energy around us.
The essence of flow includes play - dancing around in the energy around us.
Many years ago I didn't feel comfortable with my body or energetically grounded. I was highly sensitive to the emotions and turmoil of the world around me, so I retreated into my head.
I only regained my connection to my body, the wonder of energy flow, through dance. Irish dancing, folk dancing, ecstatic dance. What a ride! A bit tough on the knees, though.
About 10 years ago I started learning belly dancing, and that is the most fun way to get to loving my body. But this is not that story. It's an introduction to Maia, my wonderful belly dance teacher. She always shares love and passion for the women in her class. I feel so comfortable and welcome there! I wear some of my most colorful clothes, most of which I have found at Goodwill, or rummage sales and the like.
One day when I came in wearing something bright turquoise and purple, she asked, "Where did you find that gorgeous top?"
I perked up with "Goodwill! Is there anywhere else?"
We shared all of the beautiful things I found at Goodwill, including silk tops, flowy skirts, sari scarves, you name it. My teacher looked at me with a smirk, "Not everybody has such good luck! You channel Goodwill Mojo."
I had never thought of it that way! What I do know is that when I head to Goodwill or any other place, I make a picture in my mind of what I'd like to find. Not a specific demand or anything, but a request with release of HOW it will be filled.
This weekend my daughter decided she would like to go to Goodwill to look for her Halloween costume. She may be adopted, and she is SO my daughter. So before we went, I put it out to the universe.
"Universe, I would like to find something long and flowy like the sweater my aunt wore to the beach this summer. And my feet could use some color, so however you want to bring that, I'm open!" We walked around Goodwill a lot. It turns out my daughter CAN shop longer than I can.
I had walked by this one rack of clothes probably 5 times, finding nothing that called out to me. I recalled the image in my mind of the long flowy sweater I was looking for. While my daughter tried on yet another pair of inappropriate high heels, I browsed the rack for the 6th time. Right on the end of the rack, so close it could have bitten me the last 5 times, was this gorgeous, flowy, blue & white sweater reaching to my calves. Perfect, soft and of course, it fit me! Thank you, universe!
Another gift came in the form of rainbow striped shoes in exactly my size. And they don't look like clown shoes - I could actually wear them to work with black pants. I do not need more shoes, mind you, but when the universe hands you rainbow shoes in your size at Goodwill price you get them!
Dancing in the flow.
Dancing in the flow.
And for the cherry on top, when I get home, my husband said, "I have a present for you. Close your eyes." He placed a pair of rainbow colored kitty cat socks in my hands.
I asked for colorful feet, and I got them.
Take time to dance in the flow. It's the best way to love your life!
